Bow-tie & pointed flats at Old Navy

Old Navy currently has a great selection of flats in just about every color. They have pointed, bow-tie & perforated flats. You can choose either a suede or faux-lizard pointed flat. The suede ones will come in mostly bright colors -orange, pink and yellow. While the faux-lizard pointed flats will come in colors such as brown, taupe and black.  The pointed flats are priced at $22.94 and only come in full-sizes.  I bought a pair and they fit perfectly even though my true-size is a half-size. I’ve worn them a couple of times and they feel super comfy.

The bow-tie ballet flats are priced at $19.97 and these do come in half-sizes. The bow-tie flats come in purple, black, brown, silver, teal, orange and yellow. I noticed the bow-tie flats in orange, yellow & teal colors were on sale for $13.49. I was not able to purchase a pair of bow-tie flats since they were out of my size in the color that I was interested in. I did try a full-size but they just felt too-tight. If you are a half-size, you will want to stick with a half-size in these.

You will find a wider selection of ballet flats in-store than online. Some of the colors cannot be found on their website, but I did find them in-store. Stop by your local Old Navy store to see what deals they have on ballet flats. Make sure to check out their clearance section while you are at it.  I found this black dress for only $7! This dress was available in a green color as well in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL. All of their spring dresses are also currently on sale for $15. If you still need a dress for Sunday or shoes to go with your dress Old Navy might just be the place for you.

Pinderella- Unique Treasures in Frisco, TX

I love Pinterest! It inspires you to be a more creative with your home, parties, food and pretty much in every aspect of your life.  However, sometimes it can be a bit challenging finding some of the things from Pinterest. I am currently planning my daughter’s birthday party and I needed some cute baking cups.  I found out there is this lovely little boutique, Pinderella, in Frisco that sells cute paper products.

Pinderella booth inside Frisco Mercantile.

They carry straws, baking cups, paper goody bags, twine- all in different colors & patterns.  You can find chevron, hearts & polka dot patterns on all of their paper products.  I found the baking cups and also grabbed some twine & goody bags.  I am planning on using the baking cups for cotton candy and the paper bags for popcorn.

Pretty paper straws, baking cups, goody bags

Pinderella also carries party paper cups with cute little sayings, such as “Real Housewives of Frisco.” They should add cups with other nearby towns, like Plano, McKinney, Dallas, etc. You can also find these really unique birthday hats/crowns at Pinderella’s. I thought about buying one for my almost  3-year-old, but then realized she would probably end up not wanting to wear it or destroying it.

Cute birthday hats!

Cute birthday hats!

If you are in the Dallas area and are planning a party or event, definitively check out Pinderella.  The boutique is located inside the Frisco Mercantile. Which by the way, this was my first time at the Frisco Mercantile and they have tons of small boutiques with many interesting finds. I spent 2 hours inside this place! They have boutiques with an array of treasures: chic & vintage furniture, clothes, jewelry, chalkboard paint, etc. You will love this place!

Ballet Bar Workout- Not Just for Ballerinas

A couple of weeks ago Ellie Kemper, who plays Erin on The Office, was on the Ellen show.  She was discussing how she had been going to a ballet barre class and apparently was always getting called out by the instructor because she wasn’t doing the moves correctly.  Ellen tried to do some of the moves and said she felt like she wasn’t doing anything. Anyways, I became a little curious and wanted to learn more about ballet as a form of exercise.

I found out ballet barre exercises help tone your upper & lower body. I really need to work on getting my legs into shape so this workout was just what I was looking for. Apparently, Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, is also a big fan of ballet barre exercises.  One of the videos I found, was of her instructor demonstrating a couple of ballet barre moves.

I also found this great ballet barre exercise video.  It is only about 24 minutes long, so you could probably fit this into your busy schedule. The moves area all pretty simple, but let me tell you I could really feel my thighs burning within the first 3 minutes. I used my kitchen counter as my bar and it worked out just fine. So if you are looking for something new to add to your workout routine, definitively check out the ballet barre workout video below!

Project #87: Why blog?

Why did I start Bonjour Chica? The answer is a pretty long one. I started blogging at the beginning of this year for several different reasons. I had been reading blogs for a couple of years and I felt like I learned a lot from them.  Whether it was learning a new craft or a new recipe, I found it exciting. As I read and discovered more blogs, I started wanting to start my own.

I spent a year or more wanting to start a blog. However, my job during the last 5 years was just so exhausting that I did not have the energy for blogging.  I realized while I was sitting in my grey cubicle one day, that I desperately needed a creative outlet. In order for that to happen something had to change.  And that’s how at the end of 2012, I made a drastic career change.  I went from a relatively stable job in the non-profit sector to joining my husband in business. With a new and flexible job, I was finally able to start Bonjour Chica.

Besides it being a creative outlet, Bonjour Chica was also started to inform & share my fashion and beauty finds with others. Throughout my life I have felt unique. Not cool unique, but frustratingly unique.  I am really petite, at only 4’11” I have always struggled finding clothes that fit.  In high school, my jeans would always drag and I hated it. That was not my only challenge, so was finding the right make-up.  With an olive, warm skin-tone it has always been difficult for me to find make-up that doesn’t make me look washed out.  For the last decade or so, I have been using Google to help me in making fashion & beauty decisions. Sadly, there are not many sites with information for petite girls or girls with an olive, warm skin-tone complexion when it comes to fashion&beauty. Blogging allows me to share my fashion and beauty experiences with others. Hopefully through my posts, I may be able to help other girls who might also be facing these same challenges. And who knows, maybe I can unite all the petite girls out there so that we can let the fashion industry know that we are here and they need to start paying attention to us. Do you know how much more I would shop if petite sizes were widely available?

Finally, I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone. I am a private person, and I can’t tell you how hard it was to publish my first post. However, as I keep posting I am becoming more comfortable with sharing my opinions, likes & dislikes with the world. It is good to see that others also find my blog interesting enough to follow it. I know I am just beginning but I am just so glad that I am no longer wanting, but actually doing.

I guess you could say I started Bonjour Chica to share, inform, inspire & to cultivate my own creativity.

Why do I tell you all of this? IFB challenged bloggers with Project #87 to write about why we started blogging. And there you have it!

Express Spring Collection: Mexico City

Express® held its first-ever International Fashion show in none other than Mexico City’s main plaza! I saw the commercial last night and I loved it! The scenery is absolutely beautiful! It was interesting to see the mix between the gorgeous historic buildings and the modern colors & fashion styles of the clothing.  And to think I have not shopped at Express® in a while, this commercial makes me want to check them out.

The commercial features the song “Closer” by Tegan and Sara.  Take a look…

Here are some pieces in the Express 2013 Spring Collection, which consists mostly of neon and pale colored tops & cut-off shorts.

Fashion&Beauty- What I learned this week…

Fashion & Beauty- What I learned this week.

1. The lovely Merona® top from Target will fit you a bit too long if you are petite. I bought it in size S because I thought XS might shrink. Although, XS was about the same length as the small.  If you are petite, you can wear it with a skirt and just make sure to tuck it in.  I wore it with jeans for a more casual look, but it didn’t work because it was way too long.

2. I had been searching for some comfy and simple flats for quite a while.  I found these ballet flats at Banana Republic several weeks ago. Finally, last weekend I decided to wear them. They were only half-comfy.  Half, as in it felt great on my left foot but not so much on the right one.  Maybe my feet are weird, but these flats really bothered the back of my right foot.  It left me with a blister on my Achilles tendon.  I tried to wear them again yesterday and as soon as I slipped my right foot in the pain started.  I read the reviews on Banana Republic and they are mostly positive.  There were a couple that also found them uncomfortable, but not many.  Like I said, maybe I have weird feet.

3. I just found out Katie Holmes is the Spokesmodel for Bobbi Brown. I had no idea.  I was at Nordstrom’s when I noticed the huge picture of Katie Holmes advertising Bobbi Brown cosmetics. Since I have not bought make-up in months, I decided to stop at the counter.  Has anyone tried Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Even Finish Compact Foundation? I have only tried their mineral make-up. I thought I would try their compact foundation this time. The hip young gentleman at the counter tried a couple of shades on me and decided Natural Tan was a fit. We will see how much I agree with him after I wear it a couple of times.  Sometimes make-up looks good inside the store but once you get home it looks completely different.

4. No more Bobbi Brown tinted lip balm???? I need to visit the make-up counters at Nordstrom’s more often. I have no idea when they discontinued this great product, but I am sad.  I loved their tinted lip balm….

You can buy:

Peter pan collar top ($19.99) at Target

Abbey Ballet Flat ($79) at Banana Republic

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Compact ($46) at Nordstrom

International Women’s Day 2013

International Women's Day

Bonjour chicas!

It’s International Women’s Day! Thousands of events are happening not only today, but throughout the month of March.  These events inspire, bring awareness and celebrate the achievements made by women socially, economically and politically. There are many organizations, groups, charities, corporations, and media involved in International Women’s Day. And each organization comes up with their own theme.

The theme for this year is “The Gender Addendum: Gaining Momentum.”  As for the UN, they have declared International Women’s Day 2013’s theme as “A Promise is a Promise: Time for Action to End Violence Against Women.”  The UN has some pretty interesting facts about violence against women.   The UN reports :

  • Up to 50% of sexual assaults are committed against girls under 16 years old!
  • 603 million women live in countries where domestic violence is not considered a crime!!
  • Up to 70% of women in the world report having experienced physical and/or sexual violence at some point in their lifetime!
  • Over 60 million girls worldwide are child brides, married before the age of 18…

This last statistic doesn’t surprise me much.  I grew up in a small town in East Texas where I knew many girls who got married way before 18!! I find it sad that there are places in the world where women have no protection because domestic violence is not even a crime. I just hope that through efforts made by the UN, as well as others this changes.

Make sure you check out International Women’s Day for all of the events going on throughout the world this month.  While you are on their site make sure to check out all the latest press releases.

I leave you with this from International Women’s Day,“…make a difference, think globally and act locally!! Make everyday International Women’s Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.”

Skirts for Petites at Target

Skirts for Petites at Target

I love Target and j’adore Target even more now that I know they carry petite sizes! Online only, but still I had no idea.  I don’t shop for clothes online so it was a complete surprise to me.  I just happened to be browsing their site when I noticed the petite section.  I am so excited to see they have skirts & dresses for petite women!!  Usually, their skirts & dresses are too long for me.

The skirts pictured above are currently available at Target online.  They have a good selection of skirts in a variety of styles, cuts & prints.  These would be perfect for work. I’ll have to order one to see how it fits. I don’t like shopping online for clothes much because I like to be able to try things on.  However, their prices are pretty low so it might just be worth it. Plus, some of these skirts are too enticing.

I wish they would start carrying petite sizes at their stores as well, then I would be one very happy girl! I would be more likely to buy these skirts if I found them at the store rather than having to go online to search for them.

Come on petite chicas, let us unite and make our voices heard!! We need to let them know we are out there and ready to shop!
