Hi Ladies!

It’s nice to meet you! I’m so happy to be featured as the Petite Fashionista à la Mode today…I think it’s a great idea of Aida.  I joined the blogging world because I was always looking for different outfits to wear and ways to broaden my clothing options through tailoring.  I knew of several great Petite bloggers, but wanted to add my thoughts to the mix!

Petite Skinny Ankle Pants

Petite Skinny Ankle Pants

A favorite of celebrities, skinny ankles pants have become quite the trend.  And of course no one wears them better than petites!  Just make sure you are actually shopping for “petites”—for a stylish fit and look.

Styling skinny ankle pants is pretty easy—it’s all in the shoes. For work and an evening out, your best choice will be shoes with height such as classic pumps or wedges à la Kate Middleton. If you are going for more of a casual look, ballet flats or sandals will work just fine.

Do you know in which decade ankle pants first became popular?

Petite Celeb Style: Victoria Beckham {the Peplum Dress}

Petite Celeb Style: Peplum Dress

I’ll be honest with you, at first I was not a big fan of the peplum look. However, slowly I started to like it, mostly in dresses. So if Victoria Beckham thinks it’s stylish, then it most be 🙂

Now that I think about it, I don’t think I have seen many petite peplum dresses. The more I think about the more I can’t remember seeing any. Hmm, maybe I saw them when I was not into this look. However, recently I noticed this petite Peplum dress on Sheez Petite. I was quite drawn to it since the peplum is not very “peplumy.” Maybe that is why I was attracted to it because it only has a little peplum to it.

If you take a cue from Victoria Beckham styling the peplum dress is rather easy. I am a huge fan of black—it’s super classy. So you can style your petite black peplum dress in all black accessories like she did. Or if you are like me, once in a while I like to add a pop of color. The pop of color can be either in the shoes, handbag or thin belt. Here, I’ve decided I like the look of a thin belt in hot pink (or teal).

This fashionable petite peplum dress is great for work, special events, or if you are Victoria Beckham to travel in style.

How do you feel about the whole peplum look? Fan or not?

Lady in Red

kate in red

I have tons of black dresses….but sadly I have no red dresses! I’ve been on the hunt for one for years. Somehow when I look for them, I can’t find any that I like and so I am then drawn to black.

As you can see Duchess Catherine is quite the fan of red and she looks beautiful in it. Every time I see her in red it reminds me I still need to find a dress in this attention grabbing color.

I recently started an online search for red dresses and I was so surprised by how many great choices are out there. Now, my problem is going to be deciding between them all.

Make sure to check out the red dresses I found, some are on sale at great prices too!

Fashion Friday: Office Appropriate Shoes {Spring & Summer}

Office Shoes: Spring & Summer

Summer is coming and you might be wondering what is appropriate for work during the warmer months. I am joining Jai from Mami’s Time Out for a link up featuring a series of posts on how to dress for the warm weather without breaking any of the office dress code rules.

Every office is different and some might have a more casual dress code than others when it comes to footwear. Some might allow open-toe sandals and others might frown upon the sight of toes. Make sure to consult your dress code and look around to see what the big wigs in the office are wearing on their footsies.

I would say gladiator sandals and flip flops are definitively big no-no! They scream inappropriateness in the office. Instead, update your heels with more spring-like prints and colors. If you don’t have any already, then add a pair of nude heels to your spring/summer wardrobe. Closed-toe slingbacks are also great for the warm months. They are both sleek & sophisticated.

Wedges are another great option for the spring/summer months. Even the Duchess (aka Kate Middleton) is a fan of them. She’s been seen wearing them many times over and over again. You can wear wedges with skirts, dresses, and pants.

Make sure to check out the link up and see what others style tips are out there for dressing professionally yet comfortably this spring/summer.

How to Style Chambray {3 Ways}

Chambray

So you bought a chambray top but now you need ideas on how to style it. Let me show you three of my favorite looks for both work and play. Chambray is actually pretty versatile.

For the office, simply pair it with a pencil skirt and thin belt. I have a grey leopard print skirt that I am going to wear with my chambray shirt and for a pop of color, accessorizing with a thin hot pink belt. I have a conference later this week and it’s one of the outfits I have planned.

For a more casual look, say for a trip to the Farmer’s Market then perhaps add some shorts (in any color), cute comfy sandals and your fun crossbody or tote.

Are you meeting friends for drinks or brunch? You probably have already seen this combination a million times but skinny black jeans with sexy pumps and clutch is really a great look!

How do you like to style chambray?

Fashion Week Mèxico {Fave Looks from Days 3 &4}

In my last post, I showed you my favorite looks from the runway (days 1 &2) at Fashion Week Mèxico. As promised, here are some of my favorite looks from the last two days.

Day 3: Royal Closet

Day 3: Centro

Day 4: Simple by Trista

Day 4: Pink Magnolia

Day 4: Zíngara Summer

I feel like the last couple of days were more edgy & you saw more prints in the designs. Lorena Saravia used a lot of prints, as did Alejandra Quesada. I am not a huge fan of using a ton of prints, it seems a little 80’ish to me. Malafacha was very edgy and confusing at the same time, for me anyways. Pink Magnolia was very youthful, I could see young pop stars rocking the designs.

Which was your favorite designer from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mèxico (A/W 2014)?

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: México (A/W 2014)

mexicofw

Did you know that México’s Fashion Week is this week? This will be the 15th edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week México powered by American Express. I always hear so much about Paris Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, but honestly this is the first I have ever heard of Fashion Week México. I wish I would have gotten an invite. Se les olvidó invitarme!!

Fashion Week México (Autumn/Winter 2014) kicked off yesterday and will go through Friday, April 4th. The designers at Fashion Week México include: Alejandro Carlín (opened up fashion week), Pineda Covalin, Tregua, David Salomon, Julia y Renata, Macario Jiménez, Naye Quiros, Sandra Weil, Alexia Ulibarri, Jorge Duque, Grypho, Lydia Lavín, Black by Lozanne, Royal Closet, Lorena Saravia, Simple y Trista, Pink Magnolia (love this name), Malafacha, Zingara, and Alejandra Quesada. Additionally, two Universities- Jannette Klein and Centro will each be presenting a select group of students’ designs. How exciting!

To learn more about the talented designers presenting at Fashion Week México click here. I am quite excited to see what they have in store for Autumn/Winter 2014.

To stay up-to-date with exclusive coverage of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week México make sure to check out Caras and on twitter @fashionweekmx.

Here is an interview with Paola Wong the designer behind Pink Magnolia. I found it very inspiring! She talks about how she realized creating fashion was her passion when she was very young. She grew up watching her grandmothers and mother sew clothes for her. And did you know she launched Pink Magnolia while in school?! Pretty amazing! I really really want to meet her!!

México knows fashion! México sabe de moda!
