Shop for a Cause: Think Pink

Shop for Cause

I am so excited to tell you that this month, Mavatar will donating ALL the sales proceeds from ALL Breast Cancer Awareness shopping carts to the American Cancer Society. That means when you Shop Pink you will be giving back and supporting an organization that gives so much to those fighting breast cancer.

For several years, I worked with a local Women’s Health program in which women without the resources obtained free mammograms, follow-up exams–diagnostic studies, biopsies, and surgeries, as well as financial and ancillary support. I remember how scary the whole process was for the women I worked with. Their first thought of course was…how am I going to pay for all of this? And it meant a lot to them to know there were organizations in the community who could offer them this kind of help & support, so that they could focus on fighting the fight.

I have created a Breast Cancer Awareness cart, where I have chosen several pink items to helped you get started on your shopping for a cause this month! Also, remember to use the #shopforcause this month as you post your best pink selfies on social media.

Bobbi Brown: Foundation Stick Review

Bobbi Brown Make-Up

I follow Bobbi Brown on twitter, so lately I had been noticing their tweets on the foundation stick. I’ve tried foundation sticks in the past (years and years ago) but not the Bobbi Brown one. I read some reviews and as usual mostly positive but some negatives. Some of the negatives were that it was too heavy. This kind of made me wary about this product, as I don’t like the heavy-too-much makeup look. However, I was out of my tinted moisturizer and thought I would give this foundation stick a try. And that’s how I ended up at Neiman Marcus.

The lady at the Bobbi Brown counter helped me with choosing a color. We tried 3 different colors and ended up with the Warm Beige foundation stick as the best fit for my skin tone. She then proceeded with adding some bronzing powder in Golden Light (1), blush, and creamy lipstick (Uber Pink). She had informed me that with a $150 Bobbi Brown purchase I would get a gift  which consisted of a classic eye & cheek palette, mini mascara, and mini eye cream. I went ahead and bought the foundation stick, bronzing powder, lipstick, and a face brush as I needed some new makeup. I was surprised when they asked me what tote color I wanted, as I still had no idea about their beauty event (free tote with $125 beauty purchase +free samples). I chose the blue one, and honestly I didn’t look inside until yesterday and found all these beauty samples.

I took a photo after the mini-Bobbi Brown counter make-over and here it is:

After my Bobbi Brown makeup counter mini-makeover (wearing BB foundation stick in Warm Beige, blush, bronzing powder in Golden Light, and Uber Pink lipstick)

It’s been only a few days since I have been using the Bobbi Brown foundation stick in Warm Beige, but I really like it. I can tell from the photo, the BB makeup counter lady put more of the foundation on than I usually do. I only need a few small little dabs of the foundation stick, which I blend with the face brush and it looks pretty natural. It doesn’t feel heavy, and it doesn’t melt off. I think a little goes a long way, so if you think it’s too heavy maybe try using a little less. I am also loving the Uber Pink creamy lipstick, which is perfect for day/work.

If you are looking to update your makeup, you might want to check out NM during their beauty event going on until 9/21. That way, you not only get what you need, but also a free tote!

5 Fun Summer Finds {Forever 21}

5 Fun Summer Finds

Forever 21 never disappoints. I took a little bit of time this weekend to hit up the mall. I ended up only making it to Forever 21, but that’s all right since I found some great stuff.

I had been looking for a new pair of pj’s for the summer. I had a lot of trouble deciding since Forever 21 has so many lovely pj sets. I ended up picking this one since I love the colors. These “coffee first” pj’s will surely keep me cool this summer.

On my list of must-find were pieces of clothing that look both professional but will keep me cool during the day. If you remember, I am a real estate agent so I spend a lot of my time out driving around. And it can get pretty hot just from the car to the house that I am showing. Forever 21 has several sleeveless blouses like this one pictured above, that I can wear with  both slacks and skirts. What’s great about them is that if I take care of them, I can wear them even in the fall and winter with a cardigan.

I really like this red dress since it’s really pretty and professional looking. Now, the model makes it look a little more like a dress you would wear on a date but it’s all in how you accessorize it.  Plus, since I am petite this dress  does not look as short on me.

What the French Toast?! I love this tote, not necessarily because of the saying (although–I do love me some french toast!), but because of how it’s built. It has a zipper & inside pockets! It’s lined inside so it’s not just your regular tote. I’ll be using this to carry  my paperwork & iPad as I go from appointment to appointment.

Gorgeous upon gorgeous nail colors! I could not leave without picking up some beautiful nail polish. It was buy 1 get 1 free, so I chose this pretty hibiscus color (that reminds me of Barbie) and lovely teal color.

I was in a bit of hurry so this was all that I picked up on this trip, but I definitively need to stop by again soon.

I hope you are all having a great weekend and have a fabulous week!!

Gifts for Mom {25 Gift Ideas}

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Growing up, I used to complain to my mother about my height…well among many other things. She was the first person to tell me that great things came in small packages. I was so tired of kids in elementary school continuously asking me why I was so short. So she told me the next time they asked just to inform them that it’s because good things come in small sizes. She used several examples, something to do with a small bottle of perfume. I can’t quite remember, but I do remember it made me feel so much better. I don’t think I ever used that as a response though. I think I just resorted to rolling my eyes and telling them to leave me alone. But if I am ever feeling down about my petiteness, I always remember that conversation with my mother.

If you are not sure what to get your Mother (or the mother of your children) take it from me you can’t go wrong with breakfast in bed (or brunch at her favorite place), flowers and chocolates! You will get extra points if you make her a basket of beauty goodies so she can pamper herself.

Smashbox Try It Kit: Halo + BB {REVIEW}

smashkit

I was debating on whether I should tell you about why I wear minimal makeup (most days no makeup) or about this makeup kit I recently bought. Today let’s talk about the makeup kit by Smashbox, I’ll save my “no makeup” story for next time.

I love buying makeup! I think I just like all the pretty colors & packaging. What usually ends up happening is I wear it once and forget about it. While at Sephora last week, admiring all the pretty makeup, I stumbled upon the Smashbox Try It Kit: Halo+BB. At first, I was hesitant about it because I have a hard time finding the perfect shade for my skin tone. This try it kit comes in: fair, light, light/medium, and dark.

I am so glad I let the beauty consultant (is that what they are called?) put some of the BB cream & Halo on to help determine my shade. The light/medium one fit my skin tone nicely. I went ahead and bought the kit as it came with the primer, halo powder, BB cream, and baby buki brush. The price wasn’t too bad either, $29.

I love the primer, it goes on so smooth! For once, I think I will finish all of the makeup in the kit as I really like it and the portions are small.  I am not a big fan of the caked on look, so this kit was perfect for me. I feel like it gives me a “natural” look but with some coverage.

Ombré Hair for Brunettes {Dallas Hair Salon}

ombrehair

I am a big fan of Lily Aldridge’s hair. I think she has some of the best ombré hair out there. If you remember, I tried to do my own ombré hair awhile back with one of those diy home kits. And if you remember that didn’t really turn out that great. I probably didn’t tell you how I even tried to balayage my own hair too. That didn’t turn out too bad, but not great either.

I finally scheduled an appointment with a hair stylist. And not just any hair stylist, but someone who I actually kind of knew. You see I have probably had my hair colored at a salon all of..one time and that was horrible. I always blamed it on my dark brown hair. When I was in college, I remember a friend paid pretty close to $200 for basically nothing. Her hair looked exactly the same, dark brown. And the one time I had my hair colored at a salon, they left it an ugly red. So because of those horrible experiences I had resorted to doing it myself at home.

Recently I met Cynthia and she just happened to be a hair stylist. We started talking about hair and specifically the ombré technique.  She seemed very knowledgeable and I decided to go for it.

I was really concerned about getting it to work on my hair because of what we were starting out with. As you can see my hair was red/orangey but Cynthia was able to color it a more pretty brown close to what Lily has on the top. What I like the most about it, is that it looks natural. After trying to go back to a more natural color on my own in the past, it always ended up looking really fake or way too dark.

I am very happy with my hair and only wish I had met Cynthia sooner. What I also like is that I showed her several pictures and she was able to look at them they way I saw them. Unlike the hair stylist who gave me red hair when I wanted a nice pretty light brown hair color.

If you are in the Dallas area, give Cynthia a call at 214.566.9599 to schedule an appointment. She’s the owner and stylist at Blow Out-The Salon which is located inside Sola Salon Studios {11909 Preston Rd., Ste.1436 Studio #23, Dallas, TX 75230} By the way her prices are very reasonable, plus you get exactly what you want!

Long Hairstyles: Chic Pigtails

holly golightly pigtails

A few years ago, I cut my hair super short (accidentally). Or more like the hair stylist went a little scissor-crazy and cut too much off. I’ve been trying to grow it out ever since. Anyways, whenever my hair was really short all I could think of was of hairstyles I wanted to try, but I couldn’t because my hair was way too short. Of course, when my hair was long I couldn’t think of anything to do with it.

My favorite hairstyle for long hair is Holly Golightly’s chic pigtails. I even found this video that shows you how to easily get chic pigtails. I have tried it and it works! Except, my hair needs a few more inches for it to look good. So I will continue to wait for it to grow. But if you have long hair and don’t know what to do, you should try putting it in pigtails à la Holly Golightly.

More Than a Pretty Face {Audrey}

audrey

I’ve mentioned before what a huge fan I am of Audrey Hepburn. So much that I even named my daughter, Audrey. Most of my friends are well aware of this, as well. I was recently surprised by how so many (people in general) are unaware of what a great person she truly was. She was more than just a pretty face.

One of my sorority sisters from college, just last weekend told me how she had just learned all about Audrey by watching a recent PBS special. My sorority sister was one of those who thought I only liked Audrey Hepburn because she was pretty. I can’t remember how old I was when I first watched Roman Holiday (maybe a preteen), but soon after I started reading book after book on her. I really came to admire her and to the realization that there’s very few or any like her nowadays. Yes she was pretty and stylish, and you can be a fan of her style alone….but I want to remember & admire her for all that she was.

After my daughter was born, I bought her a book on Audrey Hepburn. She’s only three now, but someday she’ll learn all about the inspirational woman she shares a name with. Plus, she also shares her middle name with her grand-mère, who she adores. Audrey Chantal.

My sorority sister now has a deeper understanding of Audrey Hepburn & why I am such a fan. So if the only thing you know about Audrey Hepburn is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I recommend you watch this documentary:
